An answer unsure of itself, waiting for a challenge.

In my talks, I question the world of typography. From the secret personalities of fonts to the curious case of the apostrophe.

You'll learn, you'll laugh, and you might leave with an interrobang hovering over your head.

Reading Characters

The Hague, 2025__BILLYTOWN

I opened the exhibition ‘Reading Characters’ at Billytown in The Hague by reading aloud from Publication #7.

Afterwards, I gave a lecture that tried to untangle a quiet but persistent confusion: the difference between readability and legibility.

Between ‘quotation marks’

Breda, 2024__GRAPHIC MATTERS

If there were a list of the most common mistakes in typography, using the ‘wrong’ quotation marks would be at the top. I show, through careful context, that it may not be wrong at all.

Stereotypo

St. Gallen, 2021__TYPO ST. GALLEN

The question I am most often asked is, ‘How do I choose a typeface?’ What if I told you that you already know? In this lecture, I explore the history of typefaces and how this affects the choices we make.

Love letter to the letters

Rotterdam, 2018__BNO IMAGELAB

My portfolio disguised as a love letter to the letters themselves. I told them the truth: how I adore them, and how they drive me mad.

Afterwards, people approached me with teary eyes: “That really got me.”

For who?

Art & Design Schools

A talk about grids and readability? Boring! Students need to feel what happens when a system stutters.

Typography becomes a place to think, to hesitate, to doubt. I speak to students who are ready to let go of being right and start being curious. We unlearn, together.

Design Studios

Designers are already good at what they do. That’s not the point. The point is: what are they missing? What’s hiding in the letterspacing, the line break, the silence?

I work with teams who want to sharpen their eyes and ears, not just their skills.

Conferences & Festivals

I don’t give portfolio talks. I show thinking. My talks open up questions that stay with people long after the event ends.

Whether you're hosting a festival on design, typography, or visual culture, I offer a point of view that shifts how we see and hear text.
